The only con I can think of are the 'vehicle missions' where you man a turret, a walking tank and lastly a hover tank. And in the later half of the game your movement speed gets a 2x boost after which the gameplay becomes a lot like Doom 2016's, which is a huge compliment! Boos fights are also just epic, especially a certain one that takes place in a giant arena.
The weapons also feel absolutely solid just like in CoD games and unlike D3 where even the shotgun fails to impress. There are also no 'monster closets' so no cheap 'boo scares'.
While Doom 3 is pitch black 99.99% of the time Quake 4, which has the same engine with minor modifications, is far more brighter and far less foreboding. That alone is a good enough reason to try it at least in my book. It's single-player campaign will give you CoD vibes, which makes sense because this game has CoD pedigree and is developed by Raven Software, co-developers of CoD franchise. No one ever mentions Quake 4 which is a shame because it improves on Doom 3 in almost all aspects.
